This site has
been created in honor of one of the great actors and humanitarians of
our time, Canada Lee, a celebrated actor with a powerful and magnetic
stage presence.

Lee and his
extraordinary accomplishments during the 1940s and early 1950s, have
largely been forgotten in the five decades since his death. A new generation
is just beginning to rediscover him and to understand the impact and
importance of his life.
This website
is an attempt to impart some of Canada Lee's wisdom and courage, to
inspire and aid a younger generation to fight for their dreams.
This site will
be an access point to Canada Lee's life... Stories and anecdotes as
told to his wife, friends and colleagues. It will concern resources
such as the Canada Lee Scholarship Fund, Schomburg Center for Research
in Black Culture and The Museum of the City of New York, where many
of Canada's personal and professional effects are held.
It will be a
link to the many projects he was involved in and the many people he
knew and worked with.
Moreover, it
is the Internet connection to the book Frances Lee, Canada's second
wife, is writing about Canada.
It is our hope
that this site will help to again put Canada Lee in the spotlight, to
help achieve his dream of a world where people understand and accept
each other, regardless of their race, creed or color.
To that end,
we look forward to receiving your comments, ideas, and any anecdotes
about Canada and his work on stage, in films, and in the theater of
life.
Of course this
site, just like the book, is a work in progress. Keep coming back as
we will be adding new material regularly.
